OpenVPN on Windows Vista, Windows 7 or Windows 8 ?

  1. Close the OpenVPN GUI which is running in the system tray. Just right click on the OpenVPN icon in the system tray and select "Exit".
  2. Please be sure that openvpn.exe and openvpn-gui-x.x.x.exe have administrator privileges to be able change routing table. Just go to C:\Program Files\OpenVPN\bin\ and right click on that files, then choose properties, then compatibility and check "Run as Administrator".
  3. Start OpenVPN GUI again. The icon should be located on your desktop
  4. Try to connect OpenVPN again.

Mac OS X

You have probably not enabled the option "send all traffic over VPN connection" in your VPN connection advanced settings. See the step 8 in this guide. You have to enable this option. Then it should work well.

Linux

OpenVPN on Linux?

Be sure that you run OpenVPN command as a root or with "sudo" before the command. Routing table should be automatically changed once the OpenVPN is connected but sometimes it doesn't work so try to check whether the VPN connection is set as a default gateway and if necessary modify your routing table manually. You can search Google to find some solution.
